Decision
support analysis represents
the epitome of business judgment and logic: "If we
do this project, then we should see these XYZ results."
It requires sound, comprehensive assumptions, valid translation
of expected results into numbers, and a correct view of
risk factors that could delay, inhibit, or prevent the desired
results.
Every
executive wants valid information and analyses that improve
the speed and quality of their decisions. Inevitably, though,
decision analyses get infected with bias (often unintentional;
sometimes not) or shallow assumptions or a poor understanding
of risks and market realities. Just as often, the decision-maker
or sponsor has too much on their plate to sufficiently gather
the necessary inputs and construct the analysis (usually
a business case.)
